New affiliate/visiting researcher at DALOSS: Chiara Carboni, TU Dresden

Chiara Carboni is a postdoctoral fellow in Artificial Intelligence, Health and Digital Culture in the Chair of Digital Cultures at Technische Universität Dresden. Her work is situated at the intersection of Science and Technology Studies, Critical Data and Algorithm Studies, and Medical Sociology. She also contributes to the EU-funded project CYMEDSEC, Enhancing cybersecurity of connected medical devices, spearheaded by the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health. She is interested in the emerging relations between data, computation, biologies and identities, and their influence on notions of health and care.

As a DALOSS affiliate, Chiara will be focusing on questions related to residues and data, particularly to think through the ethical issues around patients’ bodies and medical databases.

The first papers from Chiara’s PhD thesis, entitled Broken glass in the clinic: Tracing the performativity of early-stage Artificial Intelligence in clinical settings have appeared in Social Science & Medicine and in Social Studies of Science. Previous work can be found on the UCL Medical Anthropology blog

Chiara will be visiting DALOSS in intermittently in 2024.

Welcome Chiara!
